I have a friend who has volunteered as a newborn-cuddler in an Oregon NICU for almost 12 years. Such a beautiful thing. I'm going to share this post with her. Thank you, Catherine!
I recommend an Icelandic-Japanese-British movie called Touch. But I wouldn’t say that touch was the crucial element in the film. “How touching” tugs at the heartstrings but the touch is purely metaphorical. “I’m touched” by your generosity, again is not physical. Strange.
I am a nurse, and cannot tell you how essential it is to touch people--older people, the disables, the people nearing the end. Touch hunger is real and so easily sated--touch a hand...
This is so beautiful - and beautifully written, too!
Thank you so much, St. Joan.
I could read a whole book of this :)
And I could probably write one!

I'll look for that movie! Thanks for staying "in touch"!

Thank you so much for this comment. I will definitely keep it in mind with older people.
If you're getting this, I guess I did something right. Will wonders never cease!
