Love your ending. Reminded me of the well-dressed man at the Charlton rest area on the Mass Pike who, every time I stop, approaches me with the same wallet-losing story.

Now I just laugh. Then he laughs too. It has become our private joke.

What's the Ben Franklin quote? If you want someone to like you, don't do a favor for them. Let them do a favor for you.

But which ending did you like? The actress? Or the Coda: the unexpected check in the mail from the old lady? Which I am now about to cash.

Coda is feel-good and aligns with my world view. The actress, unexpected and doesn't. Comfortable with the former, challenged by the latter.

absolutely. as my mother said (whom i NEVER quoted when she was alive, alas ) no good deed goes unpunished. in my experience, not always punished, but rarely reciprocated, at least in commensurste way, which alas sticks in my head.

i find what the actress did unbelievable. and if it was a premeditated scam— as it certainly was— why would she repay the $$$?

at first i thought the wig was to conceal a head bald from cancer. if it was.

it would be better if the woman giving the $$$ said “pay it forward” instead of giving her address. a much nicer sentiment , & people are wary nowadays about revealing personal info
