Enjoyed that, Catherine. I was in a meeting last week with a serial sneezer. I'd always taken that pattern to be from allergies not illness. But this being still rather Covid era-ish, everyone blessed her but recoiled, nervously. The poor woman -- at her sneezing's coda -- attempted to muffle the sneeze, resulting in a trumpet-y flatulence sound and a face inflated like a pufferfish from her effort.
My multiple sneezes only became extraordinary after I had Covid. But I must admit I never counted them. I was too in awe of this new phenomenon to think about that. But now I will
I've heard about the fear of sneezing (called sternutaphobia) but not much about the pleasure of sneezing. Your piece motivated me to put my science writer hat on and read up on it. Apparently, there is some evidence showing that endorphins are released when you sneeze, which causes the body to feel good. There seems to be little research on sneezing patterns (like how often you sneeze) but some on sexually induced sneezing. What a fascinating topic! Thanks Catherine for the great inspiration! 😊
I ADORE this comment! I love to learn new words, and I was very pleased to hear about those feel-good endorphins. I do feel terrific after my sneezes. However, I have not yet experienced sexually induced sneezing. Thank you, Annette, for such an interesting response!
With 4 sneezes, I pale in comparison ...
